Throughout our history, we have been taken from our homes in the fields, cut of from our harboring roots and used by humans in a variety of cruel ways.
Thankfully, other than getting eaten alive, we also have more than 500 different uses! We are made into all kinds of human food, such as canned corn, baby food, hominy, mush, puddings, tamales, and many more!
I'd much rather lead to some scientific progress than be eaten alive by pigs!
In the mid 1960's, about 75 percent of us were fed to livestock, 13 percent of us were exported, and the remainder went into human food and industrial products. But By the year 2000, the relative amount of us fed to animals had decreased to 60 percent, and now 22 percent was exported, 6 percent was used for High-Fructose Corn Sweetener, 6 percent was processed for ethanol, and 6 percent went into other products.
Sadly, We are also used in those smoke-producing factories! Some of our industrial uses include filler for plastics, packing materials, insulating materials, adhesives, chemicals, explosives, paint, and many more.
Today, Between 90 and 95 percent of us are harvested for grain; the remaining 5 to 10 percent is grown for silage. Of our members fed to livestock today, 29 percent of us are eaten by cattle, 29 percent by poultry, 24 percent by hogs, 16 percent to dairy cattle, and 2 percent to other wild animals!
of course, i can't forget the most attractive destiny we have(where i want to be)! Corn is used as the major study plant for many academic disciplines such as genetics, physiology, soil fertility and biochemistry. In fact, we are the most extensively studied plant by humans.
