This is the part where i reveal my secret...how i got pretty
Because we have been around for so long, we have successfully evolved from an ugly piece of weedy grass, called teosinte, to the plump, perfect, yellow beauty we are today. our ancestors are thought to be this grass-shaped plant that existed around 10000 years ago, called teosinte, simply because our DNA's are extremely alike. through evolution, we have grown to become the tall stalks of modern corn we are today, through 6000 years of human involvement.
here's how it all happened; in artificial selection, humans do the selecting instead of nature. As a simple example, humans probably discovered a variety of teosinte plants; some may have been taller, others shorter, some may have many plump seeds, and others, fewer, puny seeds. The humans, then, most likely selected the plants they most preferred to eat, and planted them to being harvested in the future. and since The plants that grow from those seeds carry more desirable genes by humans, the variety grown from this harvest will be selected for again, and then planted again. and so, just like that, the frequency of desirable gene variants increases in our population — and so does the quality of the corn.
